MY DESIGN PROCESS

MY DESIGN PROCESS

My design process is pretty straight forward, and I like to be super transparent about how I work so that you can be informed at all times on what stage of the project we are at.

Below will be a little step-by-step overview of how working on a branding or logo project with me will be structured.

Before we sign any documents or I take any deposit from you, we’ll first jump on a call either on the phone or, preferably, on something like zoom to discuss your project. We’ll speak about things like deliverables, timelines, budgets/pricing, additional collateral or any additional help you might need from me etc.

If we can verbally agree on the above details we’ll then move onto step 2…

Next step is for me to find out a little bit more about you, from you. It’s super important for me to understand you & your brand so that I can execute the best possible work for you in the design phase. It helps if you can bring a design brief to the table but if this is daunting or something you find yourself struggling with I can guide you in getting this sorted.

Together we’ll come up with a list of brand nouns and a success statement alongside the brief, to make sure that we are aligned in our vision for your brand across the whole project.

After our chat, I will then work on drafting up a Statement of Work (S.O.W.) which will cover the work requirements for our specific project together as well as the project’s expectations. This will cover the project timelines, deliverables, and working terms and conditions we set out in our first chat.

Once I have finished the S.O.W. I’ll shoot that over for you to sign, along with an invoice for the deposit (which is 50% of the agreed fee up front, as specified in my Terms of Service).

With everything now signed and deposits sorted, it’s time for me to move onto the design phase of our project, which starts with me sketching out initial concepts and jumping in and out of my design software of choice (Illustrator) to test those ideas out. As I am designing for you, I occasionally like to touch base during the design phase with updates or to ask for little snippets of feedback based on my current direction.

At the end of the main design phase I will pick the strongest, agreed upon number of concepts to present to you, at which point it’s usually best to hop back onto a call to discuss exactly my thinking and reasoning behind each concept. From here I’ll give you a couple of days to sleep on the work I present, to help you choose which direction you like best (this is an important decision, its worth taking a little bit of time over!). Once a concept is chosen, if any revisions are needed it will be now that I make those changes to fully actualise your vision.

All rounds of amends are now done, and you are over the moon with your shiny new visual identity! It is also now that I will work on any additional deliverables previously agreed upon or added to your project package, alongside the final brand document. Once you are absolutely happy with everything, I’ll send over that final invoice for the remainder of the agreed upon fee.

Upon receipt of the remainder of your fee, I will then send all applicable final files and/or exports over to you, to do with as you please (please note, no final files will be sent before I receive the final payment)! At this stage, it is great to receive feedback from you; what went well, what do you think could have improved the process etc.

Though this is the end of the project, it does not necessarily mean our work together is finished, I am always happy to discuss further work or even a continuation of work together if you feel that would be of a benefit to your business!
